Boots Riley Inside Arguements.

If the pĂ©ople ´´above you´´ who think they're better than you really cared, they wouldnt let you go on and live in poverty, they would actually make a change for you. but in reality they're just the same. they are humans too.

The government takes over your life, even the police has power over you as known as the people who are trying to help the city is actually just out here lurking for someone to arrest and get a higher salary by the end of the month.

Low class citizens living in the suburbs are immedialty judged when they go to stores, thinking that they are going to steal something. they're judged as robbers and lairs. Homeless may have jobs but are the most judghed before before even asked them how they got in this life.

Ch.4 Poverty of Courage riff.

In this chapter, Poverty of Courage, West and Smiley really brought out the dirty truth about poverty. It opened my mind on how the people who made great change in the past were actually people who experienced the challenges. Those voices were brave and had enough courage to speak up, no matter the consequences. ''Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen''(102). While this nation claims to be so brave and fearful, they don't have to courage to sit down and listen to their citizens about the extreme problems that are happening. Another reason that this chapter was most interesting was that it touched similar morals and opinions. ''If no one honestly speaks out about the suffering of the suffering of the dispossessed, their pain will never be heard''(111). Now what this nation needs is a person who's voice is actually going to be heard and taken seriously into consideration. Though the people in extreme poverty are possessed with this life style--that they clearly have not chosen-- their voices are useless. They practically don't have a say in anything. The lower class are the ones who are paying the price on everything that is happening in the country. They are the most desperate and vulnerable. ''War is the enemy of the poor''(110). Though the rich have no interest nor worry about what's happening in the world because their wealth wont be affected by anything. Either they'll just let things happen and give this country the cold shoulder or they'll do some awareness just because someone they know really got hurt by it. The government won't want to talk about poverty because they'll have to talk about the rich. Which is them, and they don't want to look shameful in all America for this tragedy.

Its Their Lives or Ours.

                                                                                                                  Yuri Almaraz
                                                                                                                            Eng 1A.
                                                                                                                             T Dewit
                                                         Its Their lives or Ours.

Does the government take action only when innocent people are dying or when they have
enough legitimacy? Obama obviously loves to get involved with enemies and their catastrophes, but what about the shit that he has committed in his own country? Right now Obama is about to strike on Syria for its destruction on chemical weapons that killed over 10,000 people over the past 3 years. Many U.S citizens and Obama himself are saying he should focus on the problem with the economy and the high unemployment in the U.S. Though Obama ignores the lower class. Is it because he’s become rich and famous as a president, that he’s forgotten all the poor people in the country? Especially in Chicago; his hometown, that has the highest crime rates in the country? Why couldn't he bring serious attention to this before all the news about Syria? I agree, the things that are happening in Syria is not at all okay, but its just not in Syria thats happening. Its going on all over the world. Its just not as exposed and if it is, he definitely won't even mention it. The U.S has to much of a deficit to start getting involved with other countries problems but at the same time, the news about Syria is too much to ignore now. Who knows what could lead up to after going into Syria. Its best to make a deal with the U.S, if the military is going to get involved with Syria, the government better make poverty an extreme topic as well and actually help the lower class. In Obama’s speech he only mentioned the middle class. The middle class obviously is not at rock bottom. Theres actually a class lower than that, in extreme poverty which I'm sure he’s heard of. But he can surely turn his head the other way but can ignore other country’s wars. If Obama didn't know, he’s also killing slowly his own citizens, his all the money, jobs and opportunity he’s taken away from us. Why can't other countries come and stop him from doing this and help us too? Other countries always rely on the U.S to step in and be the hero of the innocents, but the U.S has its own problems that are never approached but just pushed away for the poor to deal with. The rich could care less about the president's action because their health is going to stay the same, they don't care, they’re not affected by it. Its the people who are barely living off $ 1,000 a year who are actually going to get hit the harder and their children the hardest, off these political decision. They are the ones who are worried where their money is going and if its going to do them any good, are they going to get something out their hard days of work? Maybe just some more money taken out of their paycheck to fund the war. Are we working each and every day just to pay for another war to start? Might as well quit right now. The government doesn't fund money right out their fancy wallets. While we struggle to keep our nation rising in stable economy, the government is not worried about his own citizens dying in extreme poverty, they’re focusing more on national security with other countries problem. They rather take care of them first instead of their own country.
''Anytime you seriously dissect the issue on poverty, you have to talk about wealth and income inequality(105).'' Its obvious that the government wont talk about poverty, its becuase if they do, they have no choice but to also talk about the roots of where it got created and the things around it that are sinking poeple down into poverty. The government is afraid to talk about how rich and wealthy they are and how its that 1% of people who are killing people and leaving them on the lower class.

Ted Talkers Talk On Poverty

  1.  Jessica Jackley: Poverty, money -- and love

Jessica's talk on poverty was different from I expected. I learned that not all poor and at rock bottom eating dirt from their fingernails. I learned that some people in Africa may be poor but have the skills to create a business of their own! "All they need is a little capital", to launch their business or just to have it stable. 85% of the loans or donations given to them, come from friends or family. And just a bit of those donations can help with the littlest details they need for everyday life. As Jessica said, something like a lock for the door-- which they can buy from the loans/donations-- can make them feel safer, or some sugar for some tea they can use when visitors come over.
Overall, I thought the talk was very emotionally different. It talked more about actually caring and not just buying your day off. Meaning, just because you gave some change to the poor, you can feel better and go along with your day. The talk also talked about not just having people's pictures up on T.V or ads but having their stories as well. The talk and the book, The Rich and the Rest of Us, had something in common, "If no one honestly speaks out about the suffering of the dispossessed, their pain will never be heard(111)." This is also how Jessica referred it to because not only were people's pictures up on KIVA, but also their stories about their skills and business.

    2. Sheryl WuDunn: Our century's greatest injustice

    http://www.ted.com/talks/sheryl_wudunn_our_century_s_greatest_injustice.html

Sheryl's talk was very much different from Jessica's talk. Sheryl is obviously a feminist and is all forth for girl's education. I learned that girls in the world may make wiser choices. Investing in girl's education can make a big different, not only for her future but her family and her city/village. These investment could take girls out of a critical environment and take her to a more improving environment. I also learned a tragedy thing, which is that, boys in the world are favored than girls. More girls are left to die, get aborted, or taken care of less.

I thought this talk was a little biased. I didn't like how she stated that poverty was mostly because of overpopulation, spending, and women being the problem. I feel like she was bashing on boys and making their status not as important. Some of her statistics weren't really up to date. I think her "facts" were just bias-based information. The thing I do like is when she spoke about a lady named Saima married to an abusive husband. At the time a group gave her a loan and she created a business. Saima hired people in her village to help her and her husband also helps her wit her distribution. Saima couldn't do everything by herself but with her people around her, especially with her husband.
